WWW Wednesday 04.07.18

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam from Taking on a World of Words. The three W’s are:

● What are you currently reading?

● What did you recently finish reading?

● What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

I’m reading Big Bones by Laura Dockrill, it’s a funny and sarcastic read about a girl called Bluebelle a.ka. BB a.k.a. Big Bones. BB is given a food diary to fill in to try to tackle her issues with obesity. BB flaunts the fact she doesn’t think there’s anything wrong, even after suffering a huge asthma attack at school. I’m enjoying reading about BB’s life, although she’s only sixteen it’s written in quite a mature view point except when BB is being extremely selfish. The blurb mentions a tragedy in the family – I’m 100 pages in and haven’t come across this yet so I’m intrigued about this tragedy.

What did you recently finish reading?

I recently finished the e-arc of Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean. And I absolutely loved it, it was a solid 4.5 stars. Every generation a competition is held to find the best woman to marry the Prince and become the future Empress. The young women must compete against each other in four seasonal rooms, the victorious lady will be the Empress of all Seasons. It all sounds rather simple, survival of the fittest, female Hunger Games type thing but Mari is yõkai and yõkai aren’t allowed to enter the competition. Mari not only faces humiliation and disqualification from the competition if she fails but if she is discovered as a yõkai she’ll be collared and controlled for life. Full review coming soon.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Next I’ll read My Heart Goes Bang by Keris Stainton, I received this book from Readers First however I’ve also noticed that the author will be at YALC on the Saturday. If I really enjoy this book I would love to get it signed by the author.

Thanks for reading!

Bookishly yours,

Hâf
