Synopsis

Lindley always expected to become captain of the space ship, Lusca, one day. However, she wasn’t expecting that day to be the day her mother and the whole first generation on board die from a fatal virus!

The situation looks dire, the only comfort is that the second generation seem to be immune to the virus, or are they? Suddenly one crew member dies with symptoms mimicking the deadly virus, then another and another! But if it isn’t the virus causing all these deaths, what or who is?

I did not know what to expect from this novel, I hadn’t heard of this book until recently even though it was published in November 2018. Now I consider it a fairly underrated novel!

I would say this book is a combination of The Loneliest Girl in the Universe by Lauren James and One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus. A murdery mystery set in Space, the perfect sci-fi thriller!

The story kept me guessing and second guessing until the end, I could not tell who the murderer was until it was revealed, which really impressed me. I didn’t have a clue, even though it had to be one of the crew members on board! The writer carefully kept her secrets until the very end.

The story is entirely character driven, I found each of the main characters likeable as well as relatable. The writing was fairly climatic as well, the tension built and built until the final few pages when all the secrets were revealed.

The only downside to this brilliant novel, and the reason it’s four stars and not five, was a love triangle. I am not a fan of love triangles at all. I understand the reasoning behind the multiple love interests in this paticular story, it created confusion and guilt for one of the main characters, complicating the mystery. However, I’m still not a fan!

I recommend this book to anyone who likes sci-fi, especially if you also enjoy a murder mystery!

I was sent a copy of this novel from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This is did not affect my review in any way.
