I’ll be home for Christmas by Abbey Clancy

Goodreads | Book Depository

Synopsis (from Goodreads)

Popstar Jessika Malone can’t believe her luck! Not only has she signed a major record deal and is topping the charts with her latest single, she’s just been offered the chance of a lifetime: a tour with gorgeous megastar Cooper Black…

It’s everything she’s ever dreamed of – except that it means travelling thousands of miles from her boyfriend, Daniel, just when he’s finally got down on one knee and popped the question!

Far from home and followed by the paparazzi, her relationship is tested more than Jessika ever imagined – will she make it home for Christmas before it’s too late?

I’ll be home for Christmas is a cute contemporary novel about main character, Jess, as she struggles with the highs and lows of being an instant superstar. I’m conflicted about this book, at times it was funny and entertaining but overall it was a disappointing read.

One thing that confused me about this novel is how the title and cover is very focused on the festive period, but there’s actually very little amount of Christmas within the book. Personally, I was expecting a fun filled Christmassy romcom but was disappointed to find that this book would not be putting me in the Christmas mood.

Although Jess is in her twenties, she seemed much younger to me. The character could easily have been seventeen or eighteen and the book aimed at older teens rather than adults. I’d expect a twenty year olds problems to have matured slightly more than the issues Jess worried over.

I think this book will definitely entertain many readers, the main character faces many dilemmas with laugh out loud scenarios. Unfortunately for me it didn’t quite hit the mark, I enjoyed some parts of the novel but overall it wasn’t what I was expecting.

I was sent a copy of this novel from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my review in any way.
