Today’s post is all about The Love Hypothesis by Laura Steven, a 2020 LGBTQ+ young adult release with a questioning bisexual main character, you can read my review of The Love Hypothesis here. This post includes a quote from The Love Hypothesis and the author has also written an introduction for her queer novel, explain how it came to be so it’s over to Laura;
“To be entirely honest, this book started life as a standard hetero rom-com, but over the course of drafting I realised the characters had done chosen an entirely different path. I had to email my editor and say hey, how do you feel about this being queer? About a girl who’s always considered herself straight realising that her feelings for her best friend might be more complicated than she thought? My editor loved the idea, and I hope the romance feels all the more organic because it came about not from a predetermined ship, but because my characters developed a life of their own. I know a lot of bi people come to the realisation quite late, and often on a case by case basis (e.g. “I thought I was gay/straight until I met X”) and I had a lot of fun exploring that delicious moment where everything clicks into place, and you suddenly understand in a whole new context.”

“Then, something funny happens.
Keiko moves her hand just slightly, so her knuckles graze mine. Then, slowly and cautiously, she links her pinky finger through mine.
Something flutters in my belly. We’ve held hands before, and linked arms, and all that intimate best-friend stuff. But the flutter… the flutter is new.
The moment is broken too soon, and it leaves me yearning.
What is happening?”
Have you read The Love Hypothesis by Laura Steven yet? Is it on your TBR? I really enjoyed this novel and would definitely recommend it if you enjoy hilarious YA love stories.
