🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 / 5 Gumiho: Wicked Fox by Kat Cho • This book deserves all the stars! As soon as I started reading Gumiho: Wicked Fox, I could not put it down. I was immersed in this fantastic world of nine tailed foxes, powerful dokkaebi and secretive shamans, a world full of Korean folklore come to life. Kat Cho has written a novel steeped in Korean mythology, I haven't read a YA book with such a connection before. It was a very fresh and thrilling story, set in the modern day Seoul, that kept me glued to the page for all four hundred pages! The history of the gumiho was interwoven with the story of our main characters, when a more in depth explanation was needed a short tale of folklore was inserted between the chapters. It was incredibly interesting and I couldn't wait for the next piece of folklore as I read each one. I love books with more than one narrative, I had no idea when I started Gumiho: Wicked Fox that we would be following two points of view. I think a dual narrative gives us, as readers, a deeper understanding of the main characters feelings and actions. Jihoon and Miyoung are now two of my all time favourite characters, there was depth to their different personalities that made you invest in their journey. The author has created two brilliantly innovative and inspiring main characters as well as charming and witty side characters. I read this book in a day, and I think that easily summarises my review! I whole heartedly recommend this book to everyone who enjoys brilliant world building, dual POVs and a fascinating story. • A huge thank you to @penguinukbooks for sending me a copy to review! ❓Favourite LGBTQ+ character? • I couldn't choose!! I love them all. 😅 I also have a new favourite; Red from The Girl in Red by Christina Henry, but I read that book after taking this photo. • Becky Albertalli in paticular writes amazing characters, Simon & Leah are such huge favourites of mine.
